West Virginia Day 2025 | West Virginians in World War II: In Their Own Words

In 2025, we observed the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II and West Virginia Day.

We gathered for stories about Congressional Medal of Honor recipient Hershel "Woody" Williams, the opening of the 2025-2026 exhibit about West Virginian veterans during World War II, and cake to celebrate West Virginia’s birthday.

Following the event, the History Center remained open for guests to be among the first to explore the 2025-2026 exhibit, “West Virginians in World War II: In Their Own Words,” which featured the experiences of West Virginian veterans during World War II through the WVRHC’s archives
