2017 Exhibit: Flowing Outward and Beyond
West Virginia University

Founded in 1867, West Virginia University has a long and rich history. In 1862, before the state of West Virginia was even in existence, President Abraham Lincoln signed the Morrill Act, which offered states grants of land to establish a college to teach mechanical arts and agriculture. Beginning as the Agricultural College of West Virginia, the school was renamed West Virginia University in 1868.

In 2017, West Virginia University celebrated 150 years as a center of education. The exhibit, "Flowing Outward and Beyond: West Virginia University, 1867-2017," showcases WVU history through documents, photographs, and artifacts from the collections of the West Virginia & Regional History Center.
