Most of the music features one or two tenor banjos performing music unaccompanied and accompanied by a guitar and fiddle. There are also accompanied and unaccompanied guitar solos, vocal solos, unaccompanied group vocals, dulcimer tunes, and fiddle tunes with guitar and tenor banjo accompaniment. Miscellaneous Boette, Marie 540 Collection includes vocal solos, hammered dulcimer solos, and vocal solos accompanied by dulcimer. Field recordings made by various collectors and used by Boette for her book, "Singa Hipsy Doodle" (Parkersburg, 1971). Several selections are transcribed and included in Boette's book. Recording dates in Boette's book indicate the interviews were done between 1940 and 1953. Each recording event is described in terms of disk rather than as reel number on the original recordings.
