COVID Reopening

Our procedures have changed a bit:

  • Appointments are now required for Archives and Manuscripts materials, as well as our Oral Histories, Folk Music, Printed Ephemera, and physical newspaper collections.
  • Instead of pulling materials on demand, we will now pull requested material once an hour
  • No appointment necessary for our microfilm collection or reference books
  • We will accommodate walk-in patrons as space allows.

Masks are required of all patrons during their visit to the WVRHC. The University is strongly recommending the use of KN95 masks which provide an additional protection. Layering of masks and surgical masks are also better than a single cloth mask. All patrons should postpone their visit if they are feeling ill and must report a positive COVID test, should they test positive within a week of their visit to the WVRHC.

Booking an Appointment
To book an appointment, first fill out our Patron Registration form, if you have not registered before. Then, select an open date and time in the seat booking system below -- be sure to click "Submit Times" at the bottom of the page. While you will receive an automatic reply saying that your appointment request has been submitted, your booking will not be set until you've received an email from our reference staff. Read more about our new appointments policy on the seat booking page. If you think you'll want to take pictures during your appointment, please fill out our Camera use form.

Please book your appointment through our online system:

Schedule Appointment

Upcoming closures: The WVRHC will be closed on December 18th, 23rd-25th, 27th, 30th, 31st, and January 1st.

Paging Times
We will now be paging materials once an hour on the hour. Materials that require paging include: Archives & Manuscript collections, oral histories, folk music, printed ephemera, and physical newspapers. For folks who have booked an appointment, your requested materials will be ready for you when you arrive. Should you need additional materials, you'll use the yellow slips you're familiar with, but you'll now submit those by the top of the hour and your materials will arrive at seat around 15 minutes past the hour, depending on the number of paging requests. For our walk-in patrons, we'll work with you to determine the materials you need and if your materials are held on-site, then those materials will be retrieved at the next pull time. All materials held off-site need to be requested at least 48 hours in advance.

Remote Reference
We understand that some of our patrons may not feel comfortable visiting or may be unable to visit the WVRHC due to COVID-19, so we are continuing our remote reference program. Please fill out our External Patron Reference and Research Request and our reference staff will be in touch regarding your request.
